Located in the Life Sciences District, the ICTAS II building has been recognized by the Green Building Certification Institute as LEED certified to the Gold level.
This building is home to research laboratories, office space, and conference rooms. Research activity includes applied environmental biochemistry, fluvial processes, a global laboratory for bioinspired science and technology, nanobiology, nonlinear imaging and spectroscopy, organic nanostructures, pathogen ecology, pipeline corrosion, sustainable water, and a humanoid hospital.
This is Virginia Tech's first research building to be awarded the Gold certification and only the second building on campus to achieve the Gold certification. The Henderson Hall Renovation and Theatre 101 project received Gold certification in 2010.
Three floors; 42,190 square feet.
Construction began in 2009, and the building opened in 2011.
