Public Art Policy

The Public Art Policy (PDF) provides consistent approaches and procedures for selecting, acquiring, installing, and maintaining public art on Virginia Tech’s campuses.

Public and Visual Arts Council

Virginia Tech’s Public and Visual Arts Council works to increase the presence of public art to:

  • Inspire, invigorate, and challenge students, faculty, staff, and visitors to our campuses  
  • Generate creative vitality and provide places for contemplation  
  • Reflect the diverse cultures and dimensions of our society  
  • Enhance and animate our existing built and natural environments  
  • Provide destinations and way-finding milestones  
  • Express the intrinsic value of the arts to our institution and its mission  
  • Contribute to the public image of Virginia Tech and enhance its standing among peer universities

The Public and Visual Arts Council reviews proposals and makes recommendations to the president, executive vice president, and provost. The council is appointed by the executive vice president and provost and convened and led by the associate provost for the arts and includes campus representatives with experience in arts, architecture, design, and more.

Get Involved!

Undergraduate or graduate students can apply to serve on the Public and Visual Arts Council, whose work helps to uplift the university as a global destination for creativity and the arts. Terms are for one year beginning July 1, 2024, with the option to renew.

To be considered as an undergraduate or graduate student representative, please apply by Monday, April 15, 2024.
