There are Homecoming events all week long for students, alumni, and friends. If events have a cost and require registration, that is noted below. Please check back soon as we update this page with additional events.

Monday, Oct. 21

  • When: Monday, Oct. 21 from 4-7 p.m.
  • Where: Drillfield
  • About: This student event will feature interactive games, inflatables, food, music, and special guests, including the Homecoming Court candidates.

Tuesday, Oct. 22

  • When: Tuesday, Oct. 22; Doors open at 6:30 p.m., show begins at 7 p.m.
  • Where: Commonwealth Ballroom
  • About: Laugh Riot is a comedy show sponsored by the Black Student Alliance. Come for a night of laughter, community, and overall fun as we host Druski and Coulda Been Records!

Tickets are open to students, faculty, staff, and the general public and may be purchased here.

Wednesday, Oct. 23

  • When: Wednesday, Oct. 23; 4-6 p.m.
  • Where: Squires Student Center Information Booths
  • About: This student event, sponsored by Student Engagement and Campus Life, will feature Homecoming-themed crafts. Enjoy bracelet making, customize your own sunglasses, and more!

 

Thursday, Oct. 24

  • When: Thursday, Oct. 24; Doors open at 7 p.m., Show starts 7:30 p.m.
  • Where: Burruss Hall
  • About: The Homecoming Concert is sponsored by Virginia Tech Union and Undergraduate Class Programs.

Friday, Oct. 25

  • When: Friday, Oct. 25 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.
  • Where: Merry Tree Sculpture close to the Solitude House by the Duck Pond
  • About: The trees of Virginia Tech hold an important place on campus and within the hearts of Hokies everywhere. Join College of Natural Resources and Environment lab specialist John Peterson ’94, for a three mile hike through campus. Hikers will learn about the diversity of the more than 11,000 trees on campus and the legacy they represent while enjoying the beauty of fall in Blacksburg.
  • When: Friday, Oct. 25 from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.
  • Where: El Centro and Brush Mountain A, Squires Student Center third floor
  • About: Students and alums are invited to celebrate culture and be in community with the Latinx and Hispanic Alumni Society for lunch in El Centro! This event is free to attend, though registration is encouraged.
  • When: Friday, Oct. 25 from 1-3 p.m.
  • Where: Black Cultural Center, Squires Student Center first floor
  • About: Students and alumni are invited to break bread and be in community together in the Black Cultural Center  to kick off Homecoming Weekend! This event is free to attend, though registration is encouraged.
  • When: Friday, Oct. 25 from 1:30-3:30 p.m.
  • Where: APIDA + Center, Squires Student Center first floor
  • About: Sip and spill the “tea” with APIDAS during Homecoming! Students and alumni are invited to gather in the APIDA + Center to be in "communi-tea" while enjoying boba, chai, hot tea, and a variety of tea-time refreshments. This event is free to attend, though registration is encouraged.
  • When: Friday, Oct. 25 from 2-4 p.m.
  • Where: Pride Center, Squires Student Center second floor
  • About: Let’s celebrate LGBTQ+ History Month with Ex Lapide, Virginia Tech’s LGBTQIA+ alum and ally society! Lots of pizza and pride are on the menu! This event is free to attend, though registration is encouraged.
  • When: Friday, Oct. 25 from 3-5 p.m.
  • Where: Perspective Gallery, Squires Student Center second floor; Ati: Wa:oki Indigenous Community Center, Squires Student Center first floor
  • About: Join us to explore Wild Relatives, a captivating photography exhibit by Indigenous alumna Chrissy Shammas ’18, showcasing wildlife from Yellowstone. Shammas will discuss her travels and the inspiration behind her work during a talk at 3:30 p.m. in the Perspective Gallery. Following the talk, you’re invited to a dessert reception hosted by the Native and Indigenous Alumni Society (NIAS) at the Ati: Wa:oki Indigenous Community Center at 4 p.m. This event is free to attend, though registration is encouraged.
  • When: Friday, Oct. 25 at 3:30 p.m.
  • Where: The Drillfield
  • About: The Corps of Cadets will honor the Class of 1974 with a Pass in Review ceremony.
  • When: Friday, Oct. 25 from 4-6 p.m.
  • Where: Davidson Hall Lawn
  • About: Join Chemistry faculty, staff, alumni, and student on the Davidson Hall Lawn for appetizers, drinks, and great company. There is a $15 registration fee ($10 for current Virginia Tech students). Registration for children 18 and under is free. Registration is required and includes heavy hors d'oeuvres and two drinks (non-alcoholic drinks are available).
  • When: Friday, Oct. 25 from 4-6 p.m.
  • Where: War Memorial Hall
  • About: Explore the renovations to one of the most iconic buildings around the Drillfield. More than five years in the making, War Memorial Hall is open (and air conditioned!) for all Hokies to utilize! Check out the recreational and educational spaces supporting wellness, education, and research for our students and faculty!

College of Agriculture and Life Sciences: Department of Human Nutrition, Foods, and Exercise
Stop by to see the renovated lab space where students get hands-on experience utilizing physiology and physical performance research equipment. Connect with faculty and students in the labs and learn more about the valuable research they’re conducting with the department. 

College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences: Center for Humanities, Department of Philosophy, and School of Education  
Stop by to see the renovated spaces and meet with faculty and staff from each of these areas within the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences.

Student Affairs: Recreational Sports
Take a self-guided tour of the brand new fitness and recreation facilities by picking up an information sheet from the welcome desk! Stop by any time the gym is open.

    

  • When: Friday, Oct. 25 from 4-6:30 p.m.
  • Where: Ware Lab
  • About: Step into the innovative world of our student design teams and witness firsthand the incredible projects they’re working on, from motorcycles to airplanes and off-road vehicles. Engage in intimate conversations with the students, learn about their experiences, and share your own insights and memories! Children 6 and under are free to attend, registration for children 7-12 is $5, and 13+ registration is $10. Registration includes beer and wine for 21+ guests, appetizers, a $5 donation to Virginia Tech Engineering, and much more!

    The HokieBird at the 2022 Homecoming Parade
    Parade and Fireworks

    This is a beloved annual tradition for the entire community. The parade will march through the streets of downtown Blacksburg before a fireworks show over the Drillfield.

    Guests will enjoy food, entertainment, and parade commentary. Registration is $10 and children 12 and under attend for free. There will be special seating for Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets, Cornerstone Alumni, and Inclusive Alumni Societies.

  • When: Friday, Oct. 25; Doors Open 7:15 p.m., Show Begins 8 p.m.
  • Where: Commonwealth Ballroom
  • About: This annual event brings students, alumni, and the university community together to highlight the culture of the Divine 9 organizations through stepping and strolling.

Saturday, Oct. 26

    Make plans to tailgate with us before the Hokies take on Georgia Tech! Registration is $15 in advance and $20 day-of and includes food and three adult drink tickets. Guests will enjoy lawn games, music, a petting zoo, inflatables, and more.

  • When: Saturday, Oct. 26 at noon
  • Where: Lane Stadium
  • About: The Homecoming game against Georgia Tech is officially sold out. Fans still wishing to attend are encouraged to visit SeatGeek, the official fan-to-fan ticket marketplace of Virginia Tech Athletics.

Sunday, Oct. 27

  • When: Sunday, Oct. 27 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m.
  • Where: Bald Knob and War Spur at Mountain Lake Conservancy
  • About: College of Natural Resources and Environment Geography Instructor Stewart Scales ‘09, ‘11 will lead two of the most popular hikes in the area! Hikers will learn about the history of Mountain Lake and local geology, landforms, and flora as they take in beautiful views of West Virginia and the New River Valley, as well as Virginia’s largest distribution of American Chestnuts. Hikers will travel about four miles total at the two locations, including a steep ascent of .4 miles.
  • When: Sunday, Oct. 27; 10-11:30 a.m.
  • Where: Corps Leadership and Military Science Building
  • About: Join us to honor Lindsay Cherry ’58, one of Virginia Tech’s first Black students, as we accept the gifts of his class ring and saber. These gifts will be permanently displayed in the Black Cultural Center. A reception will follow a brief program acknowledging Cherry’s legacy and contributions. This event is free to attend, though registration is encouraged.
