Brand new summer transfer students majoring in the College of Architecture, Arts, and Design will be enrolled in required summer classes by their department. Please contact your academic advisor if you have any questions about enrolling in summer classes.

Art History, Creative Technologies, Studio Art, Graphic Design: Susan Rosebrough

Theatre Arts, Cinema, Music: Dee Hopkins

Brand new summer transfer students for the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences will have a “New Student Registration” hold on their account that prevents summer course registration. Transfer students need to contact their department advisors to discuss summer classes and get assistance with summer course registration. If you have any questions or concerns, or need additional information on who your advisor is, please email the Director of Advising, Ms. Jennifer Carr, for assistance.

College of Agriculture and Life Sciences advisors are assigned as follows:

  • Agricultural Science (AGSC): Ginger Dempsey
  • Agricultural and Applied Economics (AAEC): Normand Adams for the majors Agribusiness, Community Economic Development, Environmental Economics Management and Policy, Food and Health Systems Economics, International Trade and Development

As an incoming summer transfer student, you will have a “New Student Registration” hold on your account upon admission to the university. Summer one and three session classes will begin on May 20. If you would like to register for one of those summer sessions, please email the Director of Advising, Dr. Amanda Weaver, as soon as possible so that we can connect you with an academic advisor and remove your registration hold. We highly encourage you to schedule an appointment with the academic advisor to review your transfer credit and gain assistance with course scheduling or registration.

In early June, you will also receive more email communication from an academic advisor inviting you to join your New Student Advising Canvas site. If you are unable to connect with an advisor over the summer, you may receive a registration hold on your account at the end of summer advising, which can affect your ability to adjust your fall schedule. If you receive a hold, you will need to contact your assigned advisor about how to resolve the hold.

Please ensure that your term of entry is listed for summer, rather than fall. Students may request a change in their term of entry to summer by emailing appchange@vt.edu. Questions about changing your term may be directed to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions.

On June 12 and prior to your advising appointment, incoming transfer students should register for the pre-loaded schedule that is recommended for your major. This will be loaded into HokieScheduler. We ask that you register for the pre-loaded schedule and do not make further schedule changes until after your advising session. For registration instructions, please refer back to the registration module on using Hokie Scheduler. You will receive an email from your assigned advisor in early June introducing themselves and with instructions on how to connect with them to receive academic advising. If you have questions or are not sure who your academic advisor is, you can email cnre_students@vt.edu.

Please complete the Transfer Student Pre-Orientation Form on the Engineering Orientation Checklist to indicate to us if you want to enroll in summer classes at Virginia Tech. If you selected yes, we will reach out to you to discuss summer courses and assist you with summer registration. If you have questions or need assistance, please review the Engineering Orientation Website and email the Director of Advising, Dr. Marlena Lester, for assistance.
