FinTech and Big Data Analytics

The FinTech and Big Data Analytics Major (FBDA) meets an increasing need in the finance industry for skilled use of cutting-edge technology in data collection, analysis, and decision-making.

FinTech combines coursework from multiple disciplines in addition to the traditional finance program. This major includes a much more rigorous curriculum in math and programming and concludes with a capstone course that incorporates technical skill to address emerging real-world financial problems. 

What is FinTech?

FinTech is the integration of finance, computer science, and computational modeling and data analytics (CMDA) to solve complex quantitative finance problems.

The application of computer science and CMDA to finance has streamlined financial processes in many industries around the world. As the finance industry continues to evolve by embracing FinTech/Quantitative Finance skill sets, this major addresses a need for personnel who are adept in finance, computer science, mathematics, and statistics.

Average salary range has been between $65,000-$85,000

Internship Placements

Students in the FinTech option will typically find an externship the summer after their sophomore year, and an internship after their junior year. In many instances, the junior year internship will lead to a full-time placement.

Current students have been placed in a vast array of companies for their internships encompassing banking, consulting, government, investments, financial planning, and corporations.
