Innovation Campus programs will be supported by a combination of tuition and fees from its students, a state subsidy provided by Virginia for in-state students, grants and contracts overseen by its faculty, and philanthropic support from individuals and corporate partners. The Innovation Campus will use these sources of revenue to cover its direct and indirect costs and to provide financial aid to students. The goal over the long-term will be to create a self-sustaining operation that recovers its costs and contributes to the university’s strategic growth in the Washington, D.C., region.
The Innovation Campus will also serve as a “business operations innovation test-bed” for trying and scaling new administrative, financial, and budgetary innovations. As the largest university operation in the region, the Innovation Campus will serve as the nucleus for alignment of broader regional services.
