The Virginia Tech Visitor Information Center, located on Southgate Drive, is open five days a week to serve and welcome visitors to the university.
Here, visitors secure the required visitor parking pass, and they may obtain a campus map, directions, and information. Printed materials on Virginia Tech and the surrounding area are available in a brochure rack in the lobby.
The center features displays that provide a brief synopsis of each of Virginia Tech's missions of instruction, research, and outreach and include photographs of campus life today and yesteryear. Visitors can also take advantage of a computer kiosk in the lobby, where they can access the Virginia Tech website. They can visit the video room, where they can view "Putting Knowledge to Work," an eight-minute overview of the university. And they can take pictures of the life-size stuffed HokieBird that sits in the lobby.
Visitors to campus on weekdays must obtain a parking pass at the center; passes are not required on weekends, although special parking rules prevail on days when the university has home football games. Parking rules for weekdays are printed on the back of the pass, but receptionists at the center are happy to explain these rules and direct visitors to parking areas.
To facilitate the process of obtaining a visitor parking pass, please have your name, license plate number, and the name of the state where the vehicle is registered with you when you enter the center. The receptionists need this information before they can issue a visitor parking pass. Note that only visitors may secure a visitor parking pass. Virginia Tech students, faculty, and staff may not. Check the Parking Services website for detailed information on parking rules and regulations.
The Visitor Information Center is open Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m.-5 p.m. The center is not open on days when the university plays home football games or days when the university is closed for holidays or due to severe weather conditions.
