Celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Morrill Act and the history of the early years of Virginia Tech with this walking tour. Begin at Alumni Mall and follow the sidewalk counterclockwise around the Drillfield, ending at Newman Library.
Thanks to Michael Weaver, James McKenna, and Clara Cox for compiling the content of this tour.
In 1862, Abraham Lincoln signed the Morrill Act and created the land-grant university system. With the sweep of his pen, Lincoln made education more accessible, shaping the future of a young United States.
Virginia Tech celebrates this land-grant heritage 150 years later.
