The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Homicide Task Force, in conjunction with the Virginia Tech Police Department, is seeking information regarding the double homicide that occurred at the Jefferson National Forest Caldwell Fields day use area on Aug. 26, 2009.
In the evening hours of Aug. 26, Virginia Tech students Heidi Childs and David Metzler were killed. Their vehicle was parked in the gravel lot just off Route 621 (Craig’s Creek Road). Police are asking residents and visitors of Craig’s Creek Road to report ANY suspicious activity, persons, or vehicles. Additionally, police are seeking the owner of a light-colored minivan that was seen in the area of the Caldwell Fields on the evening of Aug. 26. If you are the owner of this vehicle, or if you saw this vehicle in the area, please contact the police at (540) 382-2951. You may have valuable information that would assist with this investigation.

Reward for information
A reward is being offered in excess of $60,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the murder of David Metzler and Heidi Childs on or about Aug. 26, 2009. All information will remain anonymous.
