Charles Edward Seitz

Charles Edward Seitz (1890 - 1972) was a Drainage Engineer with the Agricultural Extension Service from 1914 to 1916, an Agricultural Engineer in the Agricultural Extension Service from 1916 to 1920, and Department Head of Agricultural Engineering from 1920 to 1953. A pioneer in rural electrification, Seitz founded and headed the Department of Agricultural Engineering at Virginia Polytechnic Institute. He helped introduce electric power into American farming, led the drive for a campus agricultural engineering building, and helped found the American Society of Agricultural Engineers, which recognized him for exceptional engineering achievement in agriculture.
