The building encompasses animal care facilities, and life science laboratories. One floor supports cell research, one floor supports microbiology research, there are biological safety level 3 labs, and the basement is a state-of-the-art small animal vivarium. The building, which provides space for more than 200 faculty, students, and staff engaged in biological research, is managed by the university rather than by a college.
