Harper Hall was built in 1999 and is part of the Summit Community. Housing 249 residents, Harper is a suite-style building with either two or three rooms sharing a common living room and bathroom. Each suite living room is furnished with a coffee table, sofa, side chair, and rocking chair. Harper features two study lounges per floor, a television lounge, and the Summit Community seminar room.
Harper Hall
Laura Jane Harper (1914-1996) was a Professor from 1949 to 1980, and Professor and Dean Emeritus from 1980 to 1996. During 31 years at Virginia Tech, she became a nationally and internationally noted nutritionist, educator, and equal rights advocate. As Virginia Tech's first woman academic dean, Harper organized the School of Home Economics, initiated doctoral programs, recruited minority students, and spearheaded the drive to build Wallace Hall. A mentor and motivator, she pushed for equal education and equal treatment for all people.
