Davidson Hall

Davidson Hall houses offices, classrooms, and laboratories for the chemistry department. Three floors of the front section and part of two-story middle section were completed in 1928 at cost of $170,000; the fourth floor of the front section and an addition to the middle section were completed in 1933 at a cost of $60,000. The three-story rear section was completed in 1938 at a cost of $75,000. The building was renovated in 1964 ($282,209) with additional renovation in 1965 ($164,917). Davidson is joined to Hahn Hall by a tunnel at the rear of the building.

Robert James Davidson

Robert James Davidson (1862-1915) was a Professor from 1891 to 1915, Dean of the Scientific Department from 1903 to 1913, and Dean of the Department of Applied Science from 1913 to 1915. An American Association for the Advancement of Science Fellow, Davidson worked at VPI as a chemist for the Experiment Station and as a chemistry professor before becoming the first dean of the Scientific Department and the Department of Applied Science. During 24 years at VPI, he was also president of the Association of Official Agricultural Chemists and a delegate to the International Congress of Applied Chemists.
