Davidson Hall houses offices, classrooms, and laboratories for the chemistry department. The department is also housed in Hahn Hall North and South.
Davidson Hall is joined to South Hahn Hall by a tunnel at the rear of the building.
The building, which dates to the 1930s, is going through a full renovation into a modern teaching-and-research building, leaving only the stone facade untouched. Work is scheduled for completion in fall 2013.
The $31.1 million renovation will provide 45,000 square feet of state-of-the-art lab space and a new lecture hall that will seat 300 people. A second phase has been proposed for renovation of the front part of the building and the building's historic stone facade.

Davidson Hall is named for Robert James Davidson, who worked on campus from 1891 to 1915 as a chemistry professor, dean of the scientific department, dean of the Department of Applied Science, and a chemist for the college's Agricultural Experiment Station. An American Association for the Advancement of Science Fellow, Davidson was president of the Association of Official Agricultural Chemists and a delegate to the International Congress of Applied Chemists.
Three floors of the front section and part of a two-story middle section of Davidson Hall were completed in 1928 with other sections added in 1933 and 1938. The building was renovated in 1964 and again in 1965.
