Solitude

Oldest structure still standing on campus. Frame house built in 1859 by Col. Robert Preston, who inherited estate from his father, Virginia Governor James P. Preston. Forty acres, the house, and several farm buildings on the estate were purchased by the board of vistors in October 1872 for $21,250. Was used as a veteran's club following World War II and later as a clubhouse for "Hokie Club" activities.
